My thoughts and opinions about photography in general.

What Photography Means To Me (5)

As mentioned in one of my previous posts photography can be an expensive hobby. Many people think it’s not worth spending a lot of money in photo gear unless a return on investment is expected, otherwise mentioned “you get your money back”. This made me ask myself this question quite often in the past: “should I start taking photos for money”? Should I become a professional photographer?

Unwanted Reflections (2)

Hi folks!

Some while ago I published¬†Unwanted Reflections. Since then I hoped that occasions to take such pictures will be fewer.¬†In the meantime I continued to take all kinds of photos: landscapes, birds, insects and so on. However from time to time I couldn’t help myself from photographing bad behaviour too. This hasn’t vanished and frankly speaking I don’t think it will vanish so soon. Who knows, maybe in the future people will realise that plastic and nature are not a good match but as one Romanian proverb says “much water will still flow in the Danube until that happens”.

Photo Selection and Other Findings on Editing

Photo Selection

As highlighted here, selection is a very important process and is a must for efficient editing. Nobody likes to spend weeks or even months to edit a pack of photos, so it’s essential to choose wise. Personally I do this by setting a target which is usually 10% of what I captured in the finished session.

Of course this doesn’t mean one must be rigid. In many cases I can select slightly more pictures as from my experience there is a chance of discarding a few photos even after editing has begun. So it’s better to show some flexibility.

How do I select the photos?

How I Edit My Pictures

Introduction

After more than 4 years of posting to this blog (thanks to all of you for reading my posts) the time has come for an article regarding photo editing. It’s not meant to be a general purpose tutorial (there are countless on the web) but more like a personal opinion regarding the art of adding a personal touch to pictures. During years I developed a work-flow that helped me improve the quality of my photos. This was done in more steps, starting with simple editing in ViewNX2 and ending with processing in Lightroom and (since recently) using Photoshop.

Photography and Overcoming Phobias

Everyone has his/her own fears.¬† Like the song says “I’m only human after all”. But some of us even have real phobias like fear of the dark, phobias of large areas (agoraphobia), small areas (claustrophobia), mice, rats, other small animals and last but not least … insects and arachnids!

What Photography Means to Me (3)

Although nature photography is my “major”, I occasionally practiced other genres like: wedding and child christening photography, club event photography, fashion, portrait. This is because I like photography in general and each experience can be interesting and useful as well. And as mentioned before it adds to the overall experience and enriches it.
